Residents of Natrona County will now be able to receive information about Winter Storm Warnings via text message and email through the CodeRED System.

The CodeRED system alerts subscribers by text message, email and (in some cases) a phone call to potential hazards and alerts.

Natrona County Emergency Manager, Lt. Stewart Anderson, says that while they've always offered alerts on imminent danger weather events, the addition of winter storm warnings are a new service.

"We just recently added, without any cost, winter storm warnings," says Lt. Anderson about the CodeRED system.  "The biggest difference is you won't be receiving a phone call on that.  Because it's not an imminent danger thing, and we usually have a day or two heads up on those type of events."

Natrona County Emergency Management encourages all residents to subscribe to their CodeRED system.  "Now having the option to receive winter storm warnings is an added bonus for the residents," says Lt. Anderson.  "[it] will provide them extra time to prepare if a storm were to impact our area."

The National Weather Service warns that winter storms can immobilize a region and paralyze a city, stranding commuters, stopping the flow of supplies and disrupting emergency and medical services.
