(Photo: Trevor T. Trujillo)

The national weather service is warning that a potent winter storm could bring significant snowfall and strong winds to much of the southeastern portion of the state Friday night through early Saturday morning.

A Pacific storm system off the California coast will move across the four corners region Friday and central Rockies and high plains Friday night through Saturday night.  The national weather service says that the storm will produce widespread accumulating snow along with strong winds to much of the southeast area of Wyoming and the western Nebraska Panhandle.

The national weather service is saying that this storm system could affect the cities of Douglas, Glenrock, Lusk, Muddy Gap, Medicine Bow, Bordeaux, Rawlins, Sinclair, Hanna, Arlington, Elk Mountain, Saratoga, Encampment, Riverside, and Laramie.

The Winter Storm Watch is in effect from 11 PM Friday through 8 PM Saturday.

A Winter Storm Watch means there is potential for significant snow, sleet or ice accumulations that may affect travel.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration website says the storm could produce up to 6 to 12 inches of snow in some areas with some wind reducing visibilities.  An advisory on their website is asking livestock owners to take precautions for young or sick livestock that may be affected by the weather.
