A winter storm set to move across Wyoming is expected to make for hazardous travel across the state, particularly in western and southern Wyoming, through Friday.

That's according to K2 Radio Meteorologist Don Day of Dayweather, Inc. in Cheyenne. He expects high travel impacts to Interstate 80 and adjacent highways to develop later Thursday, overnight and through all of Friday.

Anticipated hazards include snow, blowing snow and ice. All western and southern mountain passes are expected to be impacted.

During the day Thursday, areas of snow will develop across western Wyoming near the Idaho border, extending along I-80 to Arlington. Overnight, snow showers will likely develop over northern Wyoming and into central areas of the state.

That snow will also spread along I-80 from the Laramie area west to the Utah border, likely making for "very hazardous" travel along the entire Wyoming stretch of I-80 overnight through Friday morning, Day says.

By Friday afternoon, areas of hazardous travel along I-80 are expected to spread to areas west of Laramie near Cheyenne.

I-80 east of Cheyenne to the Nebraska state line and I-25 between Cheyenne and Casper will likely see slick conditions.

"We're also expecting the mountain passes to see significant problems as well," Day says. Those passes include South Pass, Teton Pass, portions of Powder River Pass and Togwotee Pass -- they should see snow and limited visibilities through midday Friday.
