Wildfires Claim 189 Homes In No. Colorado

LOVELAND, Colo. (AP) — Firefighters continue to face dangerous conditions across much of the Rocky Mountain region.

They’re working in hot, dry weather to battle a wildfire that’s charred nearly 92 square miles in northern Colorado.

Authorities say eight more homes have burned near Fort Collins, bringing the total to at least 189. The fire is 50 percent contained.

Other wildfires are burning in warm, dry weather from Wyoming to Arizona to Southern California. A 907-acre blaze in San Diego County is 30 percent contained.

A grass fire has destroyed four homes outside Casper, Wyo. Another wildfire in the Medicine Bow National Forest has grown to more than 3 square miles.

In Nevada, crews are fighting a 34-square-mile fire north of Ely.

In New Mexico, firefighters are taking advantage of favorable conditions to battle a wildfire that’s destroyed 242 homes and businesses.
