RIVERTON, Wyo. (AP) — The Bureau of Land Management says it will hold its wild horse and burro adoption events in May and September. Federal law permits the events to sustain public lands.

According to the Riverton Ranger , there are more than 47,000 off-range horses and burros that are fed and cared for in off-range corrals or off-range pastures.

Caring for the animals costs about $50 million a year. The events are scheduled are scheduled for May 20-21 and Sept. 9-10.
