A flash flood watch will be in effect for three northeastern Wyoming counties Tuesday afternoon into this evening as thunderstorms move through the area, potentially bringing heavy rainfall and increasing the chances of flash flooding.

The National Weather Service in Rapid City, South Dakota, says the watch will go into effect at 3 p.m. and remain in place through Tuesday evening for Campbell, Crook and Weston Counties.

According to the NWS, rainfall amounts of one or two inches will be possible for a short period of time. Any flooding that develops could wash out roads in low-lying areas. Property along creeks, streams and rivers could also be impacted.

A flash flood watch means conditions are favorable for heavy rain over the watch area, which may cause flash flooding. People in the watch area should monitor NOAA weather radio and local media for updated forecasts.

The Weather Service says people should be ready to move quickly to higher ground if heavy rain occurs, rising water levels are observed or a warning is issued.
