The Wyoming Department of Transportation will begin work on the Poplar Street bridge over the railroad tracks on Monday, according to a news release.

WYDOT urges drivers to stay vigilant during the work on the span between West First Street and Interstate 25.

During the first phase, crews will restrict southbound traffic to one lane 10 feet wide for dirt and slope work. The southbound lane -- on the west side of the bridge -- will be closed.

WYDOT expects this phase to be completed by the end of December, weather permitting.

The project will include new bridge decking and some widening to the structure to accommodate sidewalks on both sides of the bridge.

WYDOT expects the entire project to be completed by Oct. 31. 2018
