A question on the November ballot will ask voters whether they want to implement a special-purpose use tax to raise funds to build a new library in downtown Casper. To get on the ballot, the proposal needed approval from four of the six municipalities in Natrona County. It has gotten support from five municipalities, with Edgerton preparing to act on the matter next month.

Supporters of a new library say the temporary tax would provide the needed funds to build a new 83,000 square foot library in the Old Yellowstone District. Its’ projected cost would be $29.7 million, with about $4.5 million designated for start-up and operational costs. Proponents believe the project could by fully paid off within two years, at which time the temporary tax would be eliminated.
