Very Cold With Early Fog & Snow Today, Becoming Warmer & More Settled Starting On New Year’s Day

A large low pressure system remains settled over the state of Wyoming for the rest of today, which will continue to transport frigid cold air into the region.  However, there is little to no moisture associated with this weather system.  Expect morning clouds with possibly a few lingering flurries or light snow showers, especially across northeastern portions of the state.  Slick to possibly snowy roads will also be possible through mid-day.  Skies will then gradually clear for the rest of the day and travel conditions will improve.  High temperatures today will remain in the teens, with wind chill values staying between -20°F and -30°F.  This low pressure system will then "cut-off" from the normal weather flow and will hover over the west coast on New Year's Day and Saturday.  As a result, higher pressure will build over the state of Wyoming.  Expect sunny to mostly sunny skies, breezy to gusty winds, and mainly dry weather conditions during this time.  Temperatures will also be warmer and near or slightly above normal, with highs in the 20's and 30's.
