The University of Wyoming’s Mason Finley will represent the Cowboys at this weekend’s U.S. Track and Field Outdoor National Championships in Sacramento, Calif. He will compete in the discus on Friday at 4:15 p.m. MT in Sacramento State’s Hornet Stadium. Fans can follow live results and live video through GoWYO.com.

Finley enters the 18-man field of the country’s best collegiate and professional throwers ranked seventh with a throw of 210-6 (64.17 meters) at the Cowpoke Open in Laramie on May 3. The second-seeded competitor in the tightly packed field has a mark of 211-9, though. Finley travels to the meet as a Cowboy for a second-straight summer, after placing 12th at the event last year.

The Buena Vista, Colo., native completed his collegiate eligibility with a stellar outdoor season for Wyoming this spring. He was named the Mountain West’s Outdoor Track & Field Student-Athlete of the Year last week after earning his 11th All-America accolade by finishing sixth in the discus at the NCAA Championships earlier this month. Previously, Finley helped the Cowboys to their second-most points ever at the MW Championships with victories in the shot put and discus at the conference meet. His throw of 60-11 1/4 in the shot put set a Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex record and ranked fifth in school history. He also set a facility record in the discus a week earlier with his throw at the Cowpoke Open, which ranked second in school history. During the outdoor season, he was named MW Athlete of the Week four times.
