LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — The University of Wyoming has negotiated a cooperative agreement with a university in the Central Asian nation of Kazakhstan (kah-zahk-STAHN').

Michael Brown, director and professor of graduate studies in the Department of Communication and Journalism, noted that Kazakhstan is similar to Wyoming in mineral wealth.

He says the agreement may provide opportunities for UW's School of Energy Resources, the College of Engineering and Applied Science and other campus units to cooperate on research.

The agreement also creates opportunities for the exchange of academic information, publications, materials and knowledge, and other mutually beneficial educational activities.

In addition, there could be future faculty and student exchanges established.
