The US women's soccer team that thrashed Japan to win the World Cup got its moment in the sun on Friday during a well-earned victory parade in New York City.

The parade took place in the Canyon of Heroes and marked the first time female athletes were honored there since 1984. It also marked the first time a women's team had a parade there. All 23 players on the team were in attendance and each received a key to the city.

Chants of "USA" filled the air and one 9-year-old girl who was on hand certainly enjoyed the moment, saying, "I'm glad to see girls getting a parade. There should be more."
