Cheyenne Police have released new details about a shooting that left two Cheyenne men dead last weekend.

Officer Dan Long says about 10 people were at a party at 4523 E. 14th Street on the night of November 15 when a fight broke out.

"There was a physical altercation at the residence," said Long. "During that altercation, that altercation actually moved from inside the house to outside the house."

A pistol, allegedly belonging to 23-year-old Justin Morrison, was introduced during the fight. A struggle over the gun ensued and ended with 23-year-old Darius Mathis shooting Morrison.

"After Mathis shot Morrison, Mathis followed Morrison towards the front of the residence with the pistol still in his hand," said Long. "That's when Brandon Painter, 20, a resident of the house, shot Mathis with an AR-15 rifle."

Long says it appears Painter acted in self-defense. The case remains under investigation.
