LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — University of Wyoming officials say they expect more than 1,700 freshmen to attend classes this fall.

University spokesman Chad Baldwin made the estimate Friday, in addition to Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management Kyle Moore predicting last month that the number would be 1,750.

That would be a 3 percent increase over fall 2017.

The university won't be able to get a firm number on a freshman class size until classes are in full swing. Classes begin Wednesday.

The university is facing capacity issues in its dormitories after back-to-back years of strong enrollment numbers.

Eric Webb, director of residence life and dining, says resident advisors will now need to be given roommates.

The university is also converting some large common rooms into dorm rooms housing four students each.
