Two dogs died Sunday after they were swept away under the ice of the North Platte River near Morad Park. Fire officials say the warmer weather has created holes in the river ice, with swift water moving underneath.

Emergency personnel say that if your pet falls into moving water, do not enter the river, but call 911, as a high number of people who enter the icy moving water become victims themselves. In addition, Casper Fire-EMS encourages dog walkers who use Morad Park to maintain control of their pets.

Casper Fire-EMS has specialized equipment designed to carry out rescues on the ice and river.
