Several thousand gallons of crude oil leaked from two tanker trailers after a crash east of Wright on Sunday, according to a news release from Wyoming Highway Patrol Sgt. David Wagener.

A commercial truck hauling a semi-trailer and a pup trailer was traveling east on Wyoming Highway 450 about 15 miles east of Wright when it went off the road into the south ditch.

Driver Nathan Gibson, 39, of Douglas attempted to steer the truck back on the highway, but was unsuccessful.

The vehicle tripped and rolled. The pup trailer was breached and leaked crude oil.

The main trailer leaked crude oil out of a hatch on top of the tank. Several thousand gallons of crude oil are believed to have leaked from the tanks.

The Campbell County Fire Department Hazmat Unit went to the scene and was able to stop the leaks. The remaining crude oil was offloaded onto another tanker.

Law enforcement agencies kept the highway open during the cleanup and investigation.

Gibson sustained only minor injuries as he was wearing his seat belt.

He was taken to a medical facility in Gillette where he was treated and released.

Gibson was cited for failing to maintain a single lane of travel along with several violations discovered after a Level I truck inspection was conducted.

Crews completed the scene cleanup around 8:00 p.m.
