A Natrona County man will avoid prison time after admitting to taking money for construction work that he didn’t do.

Forty-five year old Troy Franklin was given a four-to-six year suspended prison sentence, with five years of probation, after he pleaded guilty to two counts of obtaining property by false pretenses.

Investigators with the Natrona County Sheriff’s Office say in 2013, Franklin had entered into contract agreements, with two people to build a couple of small buildings and took some of the money up front.

The victims got suspicious when work was going slower than expected, and they later discovered that Franklin was not a licensed contractor, and that he lied at the time the deal was drawn up.

When interviewed by detectives, he later admitted to spending the money for personal use.

Franklin has also been ordered to pay $28,000 plus in restitution.
