The trial begins tomorrow for a Laramie woman accused of abusing an eight-month-old boy in a home daycare last November.

Mishawnna Kayleen Jennings, 37, stands accused of Aggravated Child Abuse in a case related to injuries sustained by an eight-month-old boy while under her care.

According to court documents, officers learned of the alleged abuse after the child’s parents took him to the Emergency Room at Ivinson Memorial Hospital. Officers were called to the hospital shortly before 4 p.m. on November 5 for a report of suspicious injuries.

Injuries revealed during a CT scan were so severe that the infant was flown to Denver Children’s Hospital in Aurora, Colo. for immediate treatment.

The infant suffered a severe head injury which included a nine millimeter skull fracture on the left rear side of his head, according to court documents. In addition, the scan found a three millimeter subdural hematoma, or pooling of blood outside the brain.

According to court documents filed on November 12, medical personnel at the Children’s Hospital advised authorities that some of his injuries indicated “a definite shaking component.”

Jennings pleaded not guilty to the crime in December and was released on bond.

The trail is scheduled through Thursday.
