CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — A November trial has been set in the case of a Wyoming officer charged in the death of a police dog left in a hot patrol car in July.

District Attorney Mike Blonigen tells the Casper Star-Tribune (http://bit.ly/1v8H2p1 ) the trial for Mills police officer Zachary Miller is set for Nov. 13 in Natrona County Circuit Court. Miller has pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor animal cruelty.

Prosecutors say Miller left K9 officer Nyx in his patrol car parked outside the department for more than six hours. Court records say the car was running, but the air conditioning was off as outside temperatures rose to 86 degrees.

Miller was suspended with pay for a week.

Nyx, a 10-year-old black Labrador, had been with the department since 2006. Miller was her handler for two years.
