CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Wyoming homeland security officials say five structures have major damage, and 10 to 12 structures have some damage after a tornado touched down near Wheatland.

Speaking for the Platte County Sheriff's Office, local radio station owner Kent Smith says one person was treated at a hospital for a cut on the head after the tornado touched down Thursday afternoon. He says one destroyed home was vacant.

A Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad crew says the tornado struck six empty cars of a train that had stopped in the Wheatland area due to the weather, pushing them over. No injuries were reported.

National Weather Service meteorologist Tim Trudel says hail the size of golf balls was reported in the Wheatland area, and 2-inch hail was reported in Laramie.
