Tim Ray Named Top Baseball Executive

Tim Ray, longtime Casper and Wyoming sportscaster, who last year made a move with the Colorado Rockies organization with their Pioneer team to Grand Junction Colorado, has been named the top executive in the Pioneer League.

In a release from the Pioneer League, Tim Ray’s accomplishments have been outlined.

Tim Ray, no stranger to The Pioneer League and Minor League Baseball, enjoyed a stellar and record-setting experience as General Manager for the inaugural season of the Grand Junction Rockies. He faced the task of moving the Casper Ghosts club to the western slope of the Rocky Mountains in a short period of time. The club left Casper in late October and opened the new office in November, 2011. By the opening of the PBL season in June, Tim Ray and staff had secured several multi-year sponsorship deals, generated excitement throughout the western slope, sold 1,435 season tickets, managed regional and national media attention, and provided oversight for an $8.3 million stadium development project involving multiple consortium members. The club set a franchise attendance record of 101,496 fans.

Dick Monfort, Colorado Rockies General Partner, states:

Jeff Bridich, Senior Director of Player Development, remarks:

“Tim and his staff had a tremendous year. The transition from Casper to Grand Junction was extremely successful, and the Rockies family is very proud of our first season on the western slope. Tim is certainly deserving of this honor and should be commended for his hard work and leadership during the 2012 season.”

Tim’s work this past season follows his previous years with the ball club as radio announcer and sales representative for eleven years, and Executive Director during the 2011 season. Tim utilizes his experience and expertise to connect the Rockies with the Grand Junction community. Under Tim Ray’s enthusiastic leadership, the club donated $25,000 to the National Junior College Baseball World Series, the first of a 15-year commitment. The Rockies also committed to the purchase of new varsity baseball and softball uniforms for the four Grand Junction high-schools over the next 12 years. Tim worked to develop a local youth baseball camp for January, 2013, with all proceeds benefitting the Colorado Mesa University Baseball Scholarship Fund. The team serves as the co-sponsor of the local community food bank, hosts specific charity fundraisers, and is a major sponsor of Habitat for Humanity. Tim Ray quickly became an acknowledged civic leader, accepting positions on the Boards of Directors of School District #51 Foundation and Community Hospital Foundation.

Our congratulations go out to an old friend Tim Ray on a job well done.
