Teton Wilderness Wildfire Puts Up Lots Of Smoke

U.S. Forest Service

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Fire managers say a wildfire has been growing in the Teton Wilderness but it’s been so smoky they haven’t been able to determine how much it’s spread.

The North Buffalo Fire was still listed at 7,500 acres Wednesday, the same acreage reported a day before. An infrared flight planned in the morning will provide a better idea of how big the fire is now.

The fire is burning in mixed conifer and beetle-killed trees 14 miles northeast of Moran. The cause isn’t known.

Crews are trying to keep the fire away from the Buffalo Valley. Fire managers will hold a community meeting at the Moran Fire Department at 7 p.m.

Meanwhile six fires, most of them small, are burning in Yellowstone National Park. The largest is 1,450 acres near Norris Junction.
