Hurricane Irene Strengthens, Heads Toward the US [VIDEO]
Authorities along the Atlantic seaboard are closely monitoring Hurricane Irene’s projected path, and preparing for the powerful storm’s arrival later in the week.
The first major hurricane of the season became a Category 2 storm on Aug. 22, and could strengthen even more in the coming days.

Strong high pressure will be overhead all week. This will lead to lots of sun and very warm temperatures across the state. Highs will range from the 80s and 90s on the plains with mostly 70s to lower 80s in the high country. Thunderstorm chances will be limited with only a few isolated afternoon thunderstorms possible in the far southeast and northwest.
