Big Second Half Propels Cowboys Past Nevada in MW Tournament, 85-81

Larry Nance, Jr. scored 19 points and grabbed 8 rebounds to lead the Wyoming Cowboys to a 85-81 victory over the Nevada Wolfpack in the opening game of the 2013 Reese's Mountain West Basketball Championships in Las Vegas Tuesday night. Nance was one of four UW players in double figures, as the Pokes survived a late push by Nevada and advance to face top seed New Mexico in quarterfinals Wednesday night.

Five Wyoming Basketball Players Earn All-Mountain West Accolades

Four Wyoming Cowgirls and one Wyoming Cowboy received the distinction of being named to the 2013 Mountain West All-Conference teams that were released by the league office Monday evening. Senior Chaundra Sewell leads the honor parade, as she earned All-Mountain West First Team honors for the 2012-13 season.

Cowboys Crumble in Border War Loss to Rams, 78-56

Colton Iverson scored 29 points to lead three Colorado State players in double figures, as the Rams completed a regular season sweep of the Wyoming Cowboys with a 78-56 win Wednesday night in Laramie. CSU utilized a 15-3 run in the first half to take control of the game and rolled to their 23rd win of the season.

Cowgirls Cruise Past Air Force 88-63

Four Wyoming Cowgirls scored in double figures, and they punished the Air Force Falcons 88-63 Wednesday night in Mountain West action at the Arena-Auditorium. The Cowgirls jumped to a 21-6 lead thanks to tough early defense and never looked back.

Cowboys Fall Short at Air Force 72-66

Nathan Sobey scored a career-high 22 points, and Leonard Washington returned to the line-up and posted a double-double, but it wasn't enough. The Wyoming Cowboys lost their third straight game in Mountain West Conference action at Air Force Tuesday night by a final of 72-66. UW suffered through a six-and-a-half minute stretch without a field goal in the second half and couldn't overcome that dry spell.

The Wyoming Cowboys were no match for the UNLV Runnin' Rebels Saturday night in a 65-42 loss at the Arena-Auditorium. The Rebels built a double figure lead midway through the first half and were never threatened by the Pokes.

Cowgirls Fall Short to Aztecs 57-51

The Wyoming Cowgirls hung tough all game long, but didn't have enough to overcome the potent 1-2 punch of Courtney Clements and Chelsea Hopkins of San Diego State in a 57-51 loss Wednesday night at the Arena-Auditorium. The league-leading Aztecs took the lead for good with an 11-3 run at the start of the second half and held off any Cowgirl challenge. Clements and Hopkins combined for 41 of SDSU's 57 points.

Cowboys Crushed at San Diego State, 79-51

The two-game win streak in Mountain West play was short-lived for the Wyoming Cowboys, as they got pasted by the Aztecs in San Diego Tuesday night, 79-51. Without their leading scorer and rebounder, Leonard Washington, the Pokes were no match for SDSU, who shot 68 percent in the game and built a 24-point lead by halftime.

MWC Basketball Championships Remain In Vegas

The Mountain West has announced that Las Vegas will continue to serve as the location for its men’s and women’s basketball championships through 2016.

Cowboys Fight Past Fresno State 55-51 in Overtime

To say the game was physical does it no justice. In another defensive slug fest, the Wyoming Cowboys out-lasted the Fresno State Bulldogs 55-51 in overtime Saturday at the Arena-Auditorium. The Cowboys out-scored Fresno State 14-2 over the final 8:20 of game action, including the overtime period.
