DeHaan: "While the price increases could continue into this week, I would expect them to be fairly mild, with the national average likely staying in the $3.50-$3.60 range that we've been stuck in since April for the coming week and likely into next week as well."

"...Oil prices remain a wildcard, but we're likely a few weeks away from seeing the national average peak. Whether it hits $4 per gallon or not is still perhaps a 50/50 chance," says petroleum analyst Patrick DeHaan.

Senator Barrasso recently appeared in front of press outside of the Senate chambers and once again challenged President Biden on his perceived lack of action when it comes to soaring gasoline prices.

Who is to blame?

The average price of gasoline is now higher than it was a year ago for the first time since late April. The national average for retail gasoline was $3.662 per gallon Thursday, a penny higher than it was on this date in 2011.
