MWC Basketball Championships Remain In Vegas

The Mountain West has announced that Las Vegas will continue to serve as the location for its men’s and women’s basketball championships through 2016.

Cowboys Fight Past Fresno State 55-51 in Overtime

To say the game was physical does it no justice. In another defensive slug fest, the Wyoming Cowboys out-lasted the Fresno State Bulldogs 55-51 in overtime Saturday at the Arena-Auditorium. The Cowboys out-scored Fresno State 14-2 over the final 8:20 of game action, including the overtime period.

A balanced scoring attack, with three players in double figures, combined with 50 percent shooting from 3-point range helped the Wyoming Cowboys snap a five-game conference losing streak Wednesday night at the Arena-Auditorium. Larry Nance Jr. scored 17 points and grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds, and Derek Cooke Jr. added a career-high tying 12 points and a career-high 13 rebounds, as the Wyoming Cowboys picked up a 61-53 win at CSU Bakersfield Wednesday night in California. The Pokes led wire-to-wire to break their four-game losing streak, and beat the Roadrunners for a second time this season.

Hugh Greenwood hit an open 18-footer and a pair of free throws with 7.4 seconds left, and the 20th-ranked New Mexico Lobos escaped Laramie with a 63-59 win Wednesday night in Mountain West Conference action at the Arena-Auditorium. The Lobos shot 53.8 percent from the field in the second half and finished with four players in double figures.

Air Force Defense Frustrates Cowboys in 57-48 Loss

A cold shooting night spelled disaster for the Wyoming Cowboys, as they lost their second straight game, 57-48, to the Air Force Falcons Saturday at the Arena-Auditorium. The Pokes shot 33 percent from the field, which included a 5-28 (17.9%) performance from beyond the arc. It was the Falcons second straight win in Laramie.

The UNLV Runnin' Rebels proved to be too much for the Wyoming Cowboys, as they pulled away in the second half for an 62-50 victory at the Thomas and Mack Center Thursday night in Las Vegas. UNLV shot 48.8 percent from the field and had a key scoring run in the second half that allowed them to take control of the game.
