Sweetwater County Emergency Management officials are tallying the damage from flooding which hit the area earlier this week.

Judy Roderick, the county's Coordinator for Emergency Management/Homeland Security, is asking residents to report flooding damage to homes and businesses on the county website. About 1.5 inches of rain hit the area on Monday and Tuesday, and residents have been busy this week with cleanup and repair efforts.

Roderick points out the federal disaster declaration which has been issued for Niobrara and Johnson Counties doesn't apply to Sweetwater County. She goes on to say Sweetwater County won't be eligible for a disaster declaration unless damages from the flooding top $1 million in cost, which she says is unlikely.

But she says tallying how much damages was caused by this week's flooding and where ti happened will help county officials plan more effectively against future flash floods.
