A months-long fire ban for the city of Casper and Natrona County has been lifted.

Officials with Casper Fire-EMS said Thursday the ban had been lifted by county fire officials after a Wednesday night county commission meeting. Dave Haigler, the Natrona County fire warden, says multiple factors were considered Wednesday night.

We haven't been having any more major fires, however, yesterday was a red flag warning day because of the wind," Haigler said. "There's 80 percent more moisture in the air today."

Though recent area weather had generally been cooler, less windy and more moist, Haigler says the fire ban couldn't be lifted until the commissioners met.

Fire bans in neighboring counties had been lifted in weeks prior.

Fire officials still recommend residents be cautious when setting campfires and discarding smoking materials. Wildfire prevention tips can be found at ready.gov.

The ban had been in place since June.
