Storage Wars Casper [GALLERY]
My television watching habits are probably quite different than most. I enjoy watching the Travel Channel, The Food Network,The History Channel and A&E just to name a few. Because of that I watch a lot of shows that may not have the wide ranging audiences of American Idol or CSI but are entertaining none the less.
One of my favorites is Storage Wars which A&E describes as,
A new original real-life series which follows four professional buyers and their teams as they scour repossessed storage units in search of hidden treasure. Part gamblers, part detectives, these seasoned veterans have found everything from coffins to the world’s most valuable comic book collection, paying as little as ten dollars for items valued in the millions.
It really is fun to watch the dynamics and interaction of the 4 main players and you find yourself rooting for and against one or the other getting a winning bid just depending on the setup of each sale. So when the Bummer brothers approached me to be the auctioneer for the Casper version of this Storage Wars, there was no way I could resist.
Over the course of the last year we have done 3 or 4 of these with varying numbers of participation and this last weekend was one of the best.
People started showing up on a brisk and windy Saturday morning at Walsh Drive Self Storage as early as 9AM to get registered for the 10AM sale start. Over 50 people signed up for bid numbers and with helpers and other lookers on we had a crowd of about 100 folks to take a look at 3 units at Walsh Drive and another 7 at Interstate Storage Solutions. When the doors are opened there are a variety of responses from excitement to disappointment depending on the contents and the individual ideas of what is treasure and what is trash. This day the units went from $40 to several hundred dollars. While we don’t know the outcome of each of these units individually there is no doubt that some will lose money on their purchases while others make a nice profit on their gamble.
In many instances these storage units are rented and not paid for, some are forgotten, others are not noticed after the death of a family member. But all are given ample opportunity to catch up on their rents and recover their items as outlined by state law which you can look at HERE. For those who want to gamble on the promise of riches hidden, auctions happen here in Casper and around the state. Many of those sales are posted HERE or check in with your local storage companies for updates on upcoming auctions and GOOD LUCK!
See what you have been missing.
