NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are rising sharply on Wall Street as Americans head to the polls in a closely fought U.S. presidential election.

Shortly before noon Tuesday, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 150 points at 13,263.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 12 points to 1,428, while the Nasdaq composite index rose 16 points to 3,016.

Technology and energy companies were among the early winners. Computer Sciences leapt 15 percent, the largest gain in the S&P 500, after its earnings blew past analysts' estimates.

Weight-loss company Medifast jumped 8 percent after reporting that its third-quarter earnings increased more than 40 percent as expenses fell and the company got strong responses to its ads and new programs.
