POWELL, Wyo. (AP) — A gunman in Powell has died after a standoff with police.

Powell police say they received a 911 call around 3:15 a.m. Thursday reporting shots fired at the Park Motel. The gunman said he had hostages inside.

Over the next few hours, the suspect fired rounds into the parking lot and surrounding area.

He was wounded in an exchange of gunfire with officers around 7:25 a.m. and was pronounced dead at the hospital. His name wasn't immediately released.

No other injuries were reported.

Powell Police Chief Roy Eckerdt told the Powell Tribune (http://bit.ly/wV7YHW) the man lived occasionally at the Park Motel and at other places in Powell. He didn't release a possible motive for the standoff.
