Powell police say they received a 911 call around 3:15 a.m. Thursday reporting shots fired at the Park Motel. The gunman said he had hostages inside.

Over the next few hours, the suspect fired rounds into the parking lot and surrounding area.

He was wounded in an exchange of gunfire with officers around 7:25 a.m. and was pronounced dead at the hospital. His name wasn’t immediately released.

No other injuries were reported.
