The Wyoming Department of Transportation says it will close and barricade a major Interstate 25 on-ramp in Casper later this month.

WYDOT says it will permanently close the southbound I-25 on-ramp at Bryan Stock Trail on Jan. 31.

WYDOT public information officer Jeff Goetz says the ramp is hazardous, obsolete and fails to meet modern interstate safety standards.

"This is a really good move," Goetz said. "It's just outdated, speeds are faster and it's a dangerous on-ramp that, I think, was well past time (for it) to close."

WYDOT says motorists currently using the southbound on-ramp at Bryan Stock Trail will now have to use the Yellowstone Highway on-ramp to access southbound I-25.
