LANDER, Wyo. (AP) — As U.S. Forest Service officials work to revise a plan for managing the Shoshone National Forest, some skiers are calling for a snowmobile ban near Two Oceans Peak on Togwotee (toe-go-tee) Pass.

The site is popular among both skiers and snowmobilers.

Daran Wells of the Togwotee Pass Backcountry Alliance says it could be dangerous to have both snowmobilers and skiers on the same terrain and that snowmobiles could trigger avalanches onto skiers below.

But Riverton Sno-Goers President Michelle Buzalsky says snowmobilers don't want to be barred from any terrain. She says most snowmobilers don't ride the same lines skiers descend.

The Forest Service hasn't decided whether a snowmobile ban will be among its draft management plan alternatives.
