JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. (AP) — A 25-year-old woman who had recently relocated to Jackson died in a skiing accident at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.

Kelsey Hewitt fell into a tree well — an area of loose snow that forms at the base of a tree — and suffocated on Tuesday. Her death is the second of the season at the resort.

Teton County Sheriff's officials say that tree well accidents are not infrequent in the Rocky Mountains and are often fatal.

The resort reported 15 inches of new snow from Monday to Tuesday. Jackson Hole Mountain Resort Risk and Safety Manager Jon Bishop says new snow can create elevated hazard.

Hewitt moved from Portland, Oregon, earlier this month and was employed by the resort.
