SHERIDAN, Wyo. (AP) — The Sheridan City Council has adopted a nondiscrimination resolution after deciding not to specify that the measure applies to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.

The resolution passed unanimously Monday instead says all Sheridan residents should live free from discrimination. Mayor Roger Miller says it's still a strong statement.

Members of the public had differing opinions about whether to include the LGBT language in the nonbinding resolution.

Laramie in 2015 passed a stronger nondiscrimination ordinance prohibiting discrimination against gay and transgender people at work and in housing and public places.

Cheyenne officials decided to hold off on a similar law last summer.
