Senator Rand Paul made a campaign stop in Casper Friday afternoon, and had the crowd in the palm of his hand.

Paul spoke to about 300 people in the theatre of the Ramkota Hotel, and sounded themes familiar to those who were fans of his father, Representative and repeat candidate for President Ron Paul.

Among those ideas were a flat tax, no more military involvement in other nation’s disputes, and a much smaller federal governmental footprint.

Along the way he took shots at the current favorite in the GOP race, developer Donald Trump. He related a story of Trump using the power of eminent domain to take a woman’s house against her will to make room for a casino.

He also castigated candidates Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio for voting against his proposal to cut off foreign aid to Egypt.

He ran down a list of his proposals in Congress and how they didn’t fly with his colleagues.

Among them, term limits for Congress, putting an end to NSA surveillance, and cutting aid to any country that persecutes Christians. That last idea is somewhat ironic since he is named for the defiantly atheist, libertarian author Ayn Rand.

Paul’s flat tax proposal was for a rate of 14.5% for both individuals and business. He admitted that would be woefully insufficient to fund the current budget. He said that was the point, and drastic cuts would be needed.

Paul contended that the federal government should provide for the national defense, and nothing else.

He was introduced by US Representative Cynthia Lummis, who essentially endorsed him for the nomination; Congressman Raul Labrador of Idaho, and State Representative Kendell Kroeker. See more photos below...
