Trustees with the Natrona County School District have finalized the calendar that will be used next school year.

District officials say the later start on Sept. 2 is likely the most obvious change on the 2014-2015 calendar that was approved on Monday. Supt. Steve Hopkins says parents surveyed overwhelmingly favored the later start.

Hopkins also says the later start carries several advantages.

“Avoiding, perhaps, the heat, it gives a little longer summer to students during the more pleasant times of the summer, with the weather in August being a better than the weather in June,” Hopkins said. “It seems to be, simply, the desire of the community, and I think the board reflects that desire.”

The calendar formula approved on Monday will be used for the next four years. District officials say the calendars generated with that formula will contain start dates between the last week of August and the first week of September.

Next school year's calendar runs from Sept. 2 to June 4, 2015. You can view the full calendar here.
