A Powell man shot by Casper Police following his escape from the Casper Re-Entry Center earlier in October is heading to trial.

At a hearing in Natrona County Circuit, 28-year old Ryan Burgess waived his preliminary hearing on escape charges.

Burgess was transferred to the CRC earlier in the month to finish a seven-to-ten year prison sentence for manslaughter.

Prosecutors say on October 10th, he failed to report to the designated pick-up point near the Social Security Office in downtown Casper.

Two days later, officers found him on two separate occasions.

Each time, Burgess drew a gun at police but did not fire.

The second time, the officer opened fire at Burgess, hitting him in the arm.

This is the second time Burgess has been charged with escape.

The first was in 2009, when he was at the Wyoming Honor Farm in Riverton.

Burgess is being held on $250,000 bond awaiting trial.
