Most people familiar with Country and Americana music are fairly well-steeped in Rodney Crowell’s commercial successes.  With number one hits like “It’s Such A Small World”, “I Couldn’t Leave You If I Tried”, “She’s Crazy For Leavin’”, “After All This Time”, and “Above And Beyond” (all consecutive number ones, mind you) – he’s been a musical force to be reckoned with for quite some time.  However, there are several of his musical gems lurking in the collections of others.  Here’s a few you might not be aware were from the mighty pen of 2013 Beartrap headliner Rodney Crowell:

The Oak Ridge Boys hit number one with the Rodney-written “Leaving Louisiana In The Broad Daylight” in 1980.

Cheesy 1980′s video and all, Crowell’s “‘Till I Gain Control Again” was a number one for Country songstress and hair length pioneer Crystal Gayle in 1984.

Rodney’s songwriting talents weren’t exclusively picked up on by Country artists – as evidenced by Bob Seger, who, along with his Silver Bullet Band, had a top five hit with Crowell’s “Shame On The Moon”.

Rodney Crowell and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band will not only have Beartrap performances in common by the time the 2013 festival is in the books – but NGDB also chalked up a number one hit with Rodney’s “Long Hard Road (The Sharecropper’s Dream)” in 1984.

Highway 101 took the Crowell exit back in 1987 and scored yet another Rodney-written number one, with his “Somewhere Tonight”.
