Report Critical of Cheyenne VA Hospital
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — A U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs investigation has found Cheyenne workers manipulated scheduling to make it appear veterans waited no more than the 14-day limit for medical appointments.
Six Cheyenne VA Medical Center workers were implicated in a scheme involving rescheduling veterans' appointments to comply with the 14-day mandate from 2011 to mid-2013.
The initial investigation into the hospital's Fort Collins, Colorado, outpatient clinic spread to include Cheyenne staff members.
Findings were released April 1.
Cheyenne hospital spokesman Samuel House says the six employees were disciplined.
He said the hospital started implementing changes almost two years ago when the investigation was launched.
House said new hires, a more relaxed appointment goal of 30 days and other alternatives for patients have helped address the issue.
