CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — There's more public access on the North Platte River upstream from Casper thanks to the effort of the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department and some conservation groups.

The BLM and the game department partnered with the Wyoming Fly Casters and the Conservation Fund to purchase about 400 acres downstream from Government Bridge for $3.17 million.

The Associated Press reports the purchase creates nearly 8 continuous miles of public access.

Matt Stanton is treasurer and conservation chairman of the Wyoming Fly Casters. He says the purchase creates better stream access.

The parcel has been open to public access through the Game Department's AccessYes program for years but the purchase ensures it will remain open permanently.
