Phony Warrant Scam Reported In Cheyenne
A spokesman for the Cheyenne Police Department says someone has been calling people and threatening them with jail time unless they pay ''fines" for non existent warrants.
Officer Dan Long says the caller claims to be a member of the Laramie County Sheriff's Department, and asks the intended victims to pay the phony fines through a pre-paid gift card.
Long says the calls have come from the phone number (307) 287-1277. He also says warrants aren't served that way, and no legitimate fine would be paid through a gift card.
People can find out if they have outstanding warrants by calling the Laramie County Sheriff's Department at (307) 633-4740 or the Dispatch Center at (307) 633-4740.
