The installation of an ice rink may be just around the corner at the Casper Events Center.

“Engineering work has been done, we’ve got a contract drawn up, and we anticipate getting approval of that so we can move forward with the installation of ice in the window that we have this summer,” John Patterson, the city manager of Casper, said on Thursday.

Patterson said Casper City Council will vote on the contract next Tuesday. He also said the price tag for the rink remains at around $2.6 million.

Former Wyoming congressman John Wold has already donated $1 million toward the project. Wold's donation was initially contingent upon the city finding a professional hockey tenant by 2014, but that stipulation was dropped earlier this month.

The city is still aiming to land a professional hockey franchise by 2015.
