A highway overpass, about 25 miles north of Cheyenne, remains closed as officials determine the amount of damage that occurred when the structure was struck by an oversize load.

Wyoming Highway Patrol officials say that the damaged overpass is at the Nimmo Road interchange on I-25, between the communities of Cheyenne and Chugwater.

Officials say that the damage occurred Monday when the driver of the oversize load thought his load was under the posted height, however, it proved to be just slightly taller. The load, a large open pit mining truck, struck the bottom of the southbound side of the overpass causing major damage to the bridge girders.

The impact also caused the oversize mining truck to become partially off of the

trailer it was being hauled on. A large crane was required to be brought in the weekend to lift the load back onto the trailer.

The mining truck was being transported to South America and was to be loaded onto a ship to make the trip to its final destination.
