A one-to-one car-per-officer program for Casper police has the support of Casper City Council. It's a big initial investment, $2.3 million, but according to reports from the majority of large cities in Wyoming where one car per officer is the norm, it pays off in savings in the long run. City council wants to pay for the program as part of the 2013 budget using one cent funds.

"When we refer back to our one-cent survey and all of the citizens told us what was important to them, police was number three on the list. We felt that would be a good use spending that money in a way that was really in line with what our community wanted."

Casper Mayer Kenyne Schlager says the money is there and the program will make a big impact through extended vehicle life, lower maintenance costs, and quicker officer recall times.
