Officials with the National Weather Service say they will hold a weather spotter training class in Casper on Tuesday.

“This training is for both spotters who are new to the program and those who might need a refresher,” Riverton-based National Weather Service meteorologist Chris Jones said. “We ask our current spotters to come back every other year – it’s a free-of-charge class, and anybody who has an interest in weather will get something out of it."

Jones also says accurate weather spotting is critical for his agency.

“They are our eyes in the field,” Jones said. “We, obviously, can’t be everywhere across Wyoming, so having somebody that can call us and say, ‘Hey! We just had a hail storm come through, and here’s how big the hail stones were,’ that’s invaluable to us.”

The class will be held at the Wold Physical Science Center on the campus of Casper College at 6 p.m.
