There are reports coming into our newsroom that North Korea has apparently tried to launch a ballistic missile.

But indications are the launch was a failure.

The attempt was on Sunday in North Korea near the eastern port city of Sinpo. The report on the apparent failure of the launch comes from South Korean military sources.

This comes one after a huge military parade in Pyongyang to celebrate the birthday of the founder of North Korea, Kim Il-Sung, the grandfather of the current leader, Kim Jong-un.

In that military parade were several reportedly long-range ballistic missiles.

There has been no comment from Washington yet.
