A Casper man is heading to prison after attacking his then-girlfriend, but he might get a chance to shorten his time behind bars.

Twenty-two-year-old Nicholas Amacher was sentenced to three-to-five-and-a-half years in prison, with a boot camp recommendation, after pleading guilty to one count of battery.

Investigators last July, Amacher hit and choked his girlfriend and kept her from leaving  his apartment.

Prosecutors also claim Amacher threatened to kill the woman, and had a lengthy misdemeanor criminal history.

When interviewed by police, Amacher admitted being in a fight.

If he completes the boot camp requirement, the court might call him back for a sentence review hearing.
