An election issue from another state is raising some concerns in Wyoming.

Voters in Colorado passed Amendment 64, which allows adults over 21 to possess up to an ounce of marijuana, though using the drug publicly would be banned.

The amendment also allows people to grow up to six marijuana plants in a private, secure area.

Casper Police Chief Chris Walsh, says he is concerned that people will think that they can purchase marijuana in Colorado, then bring it into the Casper area and not get in trouble with Wyoming law.

"We see a lot of possession of marijuana cases now that are prescription marijuana that people have purchased in Colorado already under their previous law, and so I think it makes availabilty easier, and we see it come up here, and at least people report the idea of 'Well I had a prescription for it so it must be legal,' and it's not in Wyoming."

Questions remain on how the US Justice Department and the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration will react to the Colorado situation, because federal law still considers marijuana an illegal drug.
