Wyoming Senate file 29 signed by the Governor Thursday broadens the definition of the synthetic substance known as Spice, but not enough to include the compound found in the batch confiscated in Casper last week.

Casper Police Chief, Chris Walsh, says lab results indicate the marijuana-like compound that made at least three people critically ill, remains outside of Wyoming's drug laws, but not Federal law.

"There is a likely avenue for us to work with the Feds on prosecution on the stuff that we found last week."

Walsh says they are early in the process of approaching Federal Drug Enforcement Agencies to see if the case would be taken up at that level.

Three individuals of interest in the poisoning incidents were in custody on unrelated charges last week.

Walsh says the amendments made in Senate file 29 are helpful, but keeping up with chemical derivatives will be an going battle.
